1st Circ. Considers Fitting Defamation Rules To Internet Age

Law360, Boston (March 6, 2018, 8:10 PM EST) -- A brokerage firm’s dispute with a financial news website and its anonymously sourced articles could lead to new guidance on legal jurisdictions appropriate for allegations of libelous subscription content distributed online, First Circuit judges indicated on Tuesday.

Arizona-based Scottsdale Capital Advisors Corp. asked the appellate court to recognize that the delivery of email newsletters to two people at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire allows any defamatory content in that message to be contested in New Hampshire courts, whether or not the emails were ever opened....
