EU Sets Feb. 28 Deadline For US To Fill Privacy Shield Job
By Allison Grande (December 20, 2018, 11:27 PM EST) -- The European Commission on Wednesday applauded the steps that U.S. officials have taken to improve the trans-Atlantic Privacy Shield data transfer pact during the past year, but warned it would take action if the Trump administration doesn't select a permanent ombudsperson to handle national security complaints by the end of February.
EU and U.S. officials in October conducted the second joint review of the Privacy Shield mechanism, which was put in place in 2016 after the European Court of Justice invalidated the former safe harbor data transfer tool, and on Wednesday, the commission released its official report on the review.
