MLB Stars Are Witnesses In Cuban Player Smuggling Trial

By Rick Archer (November 15, 2016, 6:19 PM EST) -- Major League Baseball All-Stars Jose Abreu and Yoenis Cespedes are among more than a dozen major league players the U.S. government listed as witnesses Monday for the upcoming trial of a sports agent accused of smuggling ballplayers from Cuba.

Cespedes, who played last season for the New York Mets and is currently a free agent, and the Chicago White Sox's Abreu were among nearly three dozen Cuban-born major and minor league ballplayers on the government witness list for the upcoming trial of Bartolo Hernandez, alongside former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and several Major League Baseball executives.
