Ill. Truck Driver Says Cos. Routinely Underpaid Immigrants

Law360 (August 9, 2019, 3:16 PM EDT) -- Two trucking companies were hit Thursday with a proposed class action in Illinois state court accusing them of exploiting immigrants by improperly classifying them as independent contractors, making illegal deductions from their paychecks and failing to compensate them for all miles driven.

Named plaintiff Zhanat Tlenchiyev, who was a truck driver paid by the mile for sister companies Patriot Transport Inc. and Expeditor Systems Inc., said in the complaint that he hasn't been paid for more than 4,000 miles and is owed more than $2,200.
