Jury Clears Wrestlers In WWE Doctor's $8M Defamation Suit

Law360 (June 6, 2018, 6:48 PM EDT) -- An Illinois state jury cleared wrestlers CM Punk and Colt Cabana Tuesday of defamation charges brought by World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. ringside doctor Christopher Amann after they blamed him for Punk's staph infection during a podcast.

After a six-day trial, the jury ruled in favor of Punk and Cabana, whose real names are Phillip Jack Brooks and Scott Colton, respectively, on claims for defamation as well as false light invasion of privacy. The wrestlers had argued that Brooks' comments on the podcast about Amann's medical treatment were either literally or substantially true and therefore not defamatory, said Laura McNally, partner at Loeb & Loeb LLP...
