Law360, New York (January 29, 2010, 7:36 PM EST) -- Facing tighter budgets and a teetering economy, many technology and medical companies opted to shell out some gigantic settlement payments in 2009 to forgo waging potentially more expensive and time-draining patent litigation battles against industry rivals.
