Fla. Launches Anti-Cadmium Bill

Law360, New York (March 9, 2010, 5:19 PM EST) -- Florida has become the latest state to introduce legislation to ban cadmium and other unsafe metals from children's jewelry, following in the footsteps of the U.S. Congress and several other states.

The bill, introduced in the Florida House of Representatives on March 3 by Democratic Rep. Geraldine F. “Geri” Thompson, would impose civil fines on those who sell cadmium-containing jewelry, toys or “child care articles” meant for children under the age of seven.

It would also provide that a “knowing and intentional violation” of the act...
