Google Wins $1B YouTube Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (June 23, 2010, 7:54 PM EDT) -- Google Inc. has emerged victorious in the $1 billion copyright suit against it by Viacom International Inc. over YouTube, as a federal judge granted Google summary judgment in the case, while Viacom said it would swiftly appeal.

Judge Louis Stanton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled Wednesday that Google is not liable for copyright infringement on YouTube under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act because the site has a policy of removing infringing content when it is notified.
