Chip Inspection Patents Ruled Unenforceable

Law360, New York (May 24, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A New York court has ruled that a Belgian technology company has not infringed a rival’s patents covering inspection systems for electronic components commonly used in personal computers, cellular phones, electronic organizers and compact disc players.

ICOS Vision Systems Corp. NV did not infringe two Scanner Technologies Corp. patents, according to a bench trial ruling issued by U.S. District judge Denny Chin on Tuesday.

“Scanner has not proven that each and every element of its claims—or their equivalent—is found in the ICOS devices,” Chin’s ruling said....
