Judge Clears Copyright Trial Over WTC Designs

Law360, New York (August 21, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A copyright battle over proposed architecture at the World Trade Center site will proceed to trial after a district judge ruled a Freedom Tower design may have infringed the copyright of a student’s class project.

Former architecture student Thomas Shine sued famous architect David Childs and his firm, Skidmore Owings & Merrill, LLP in November 2004, alleging Childs stole his design after reviewing it in 1999 as an expert at a class presentation.
