Bookstores Slam Amazon Bid To Nix E-Book Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (April 11, 2013, 5:54 PM EDT) -- Independent booksellers on Thursday criticized Amazon Inc.'s attempt to evade class claims that its agreements with major publishers keep small brick-and-mortar stores out of the e-book market, saying their suit sufficiently alleges the online retail giant monopolizes the market.

Opposing Amazon's bid to throw out a putative antitrust class action in New York federal court, a potential class of independent booksellers argued their first amended complaint against Amazon and six major publishing houses presented allegations strong enough to avoid dismissal.
