FHFA Attys Fire Back At Appeals Over Tax Exemption

Law360, New York (February 14, 2014, 5:25 PM EST) -- Federal Housing Finance Agency attorneys fired back Thursday to a host of class action appeals filed with the Eleventh Circuit challenging a district court's ruling that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the FHFA were totally exempt from real estate transfer taxes.

The appeals, which were filed in September in the Eleventh Circuit by Florida, Georgia and Alabama counties and county officials, argued that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the FHFA should not be exempt from paying transfer taxes on foreclosed properties.
