NJ Engineering Contractor Fined $3M In FCA Suit

Law360, New York (May 13, 2014, 3:41 PM EDT) -- Moretrench American Corp. agreed Monday in New York federal court to pay a $3 million fine to the U.S. government for lying about the status of a subcontractor in order to win a multimillion dollar contract for removing groundwater at the World Trade Center site.

Under the settlement, approved by U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain, Moretrench also agreed to pay $50,000 to the Office of Inspector General of the Port Authority for its investigative costs. As part of the agreement, the company admits to violating...
