HSBC, Nordstrom Reveal Data Security Breaches

By Allison Grande (November 6, 2018, 7:05 PM EST) -- HSBC Bank, Five Guys burger chain, Nordstrom and insurer Transamerica have all experienced data security incidents in recent months that compromised a broad range of personal information belonging to both customers and employees, according to disclosures submitted to the California attorney general. 

Two of the newly reported incidents — the breaches at HSBC and Five Guys — resulted from outside parties attempting to access personal data held by the companies, while the Nordstrom and Transamerica exposures stemmed from employees mishandling sensitive information, the companies revealed in sample notification letters they provided to the California Attorney General's Office recently in order to comply...
