Telecom Co. Beats Bid To Toss $563M Satellite Deal Award

Law360 (April 17, 2019, 5:22 PM EDT) -- A Washington federal court has denied a bid to toss an Indian telecom company's suit seeking confirmation of a more than $562.5 million arbitral award stemming from a canceled satellite-leasing deal, while simultaneously pausing the suit as the award is challenged in India's courts.

U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Zilly on Tuesday rejected arguments made by Antrix Corp. Ltd., the marketing arm of India's space program, that exercising jurisdiction over the action would flout the state-owned company's due process, according to the filing. The judge held that the court has jurisdiction under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act.
