Feds Say Recusal Bid 'Grossly Distorts' Judge's Statements

Law360 (July 29, 2020, 10:09 PM EDT) -- Federal prosecutors in New York on Tuesday said a Turkish bank accused of facilitating sanctions evasion "grossly" distorted the statements of the judge handling its case in service of its request for the judge's recusal.

In a July 28 memorandum, government attorneys opposed Turkiye Halk Bankasi AS' recent motion to recuse U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman, claiming the bank twisted Judge Berman's words in an attempt to paint him as having opined on issues too close to the case to preside over it himself.
