NFL Sunday Ticket A Monopoly For DirecTV, Bar Owner Says

Law360, Washington (July 14, 2015, 1:03 PM EDT) -- A San Francisco bar launched an antitrust class action on behalf of similarly situated bars and restaurants against the National Football League and DirecTV LLC in California federal court on Monday, saying that their exclusive “NFL Sunday Ticket” package gouges customers through a monopolistic partnership.

Ninth Inning Inc., which owns The Mucky Duck sports bar, said that the establishment and others must have the exclusive DirecTV package to broadcast out-of-market NFL games to attract customers loyal to teams outside of the bar’s market. But the estimated $1.5 billion annual deal that gives DirecTV exclusive rights to broadcast the out-of-market games unfairly...
