NetZero, Yahoo, Twitter Win Fees In Patent Licensing Case
An Illinois federal judge Friday granted $384,000 in attorneys' fees under Octane Fitness to NetZero Inc., Twitter Inc., Yahoo Inc. and a slew of other defendants in multidistrict litigation over several message management patents asserted by units of patent licensing firm Acacia Research Corp. and j2 Global Communications Inc.

Twitter, Yahoo, Others Win Some Fees In MDL Patent Suit
Units of patent licensing firm Acacia Research Corp. and j2 Global Communications Inc. must pay Twitter, Yahoo and others a portion of their attorneys' fees in multidistrict litigation over the alleged infringement of several message management patents, with an Illinois federal judge on Thursday partly declaring the case as exceptional.

Two patent-holding companies hit back Monday against Twitter Inc., Yahoo Inc. and others' attempts to shift multidistrict litigation fees by declaring the case exceptional, calling the motion "character assassination" and arguing their claims were not frivolous or filed in bad faith.
