DOJ Lands 1st Indictment Of Many Expected In 737 Max Probe
By Linda Chiem (October 15, 2021, 8:37 PM EDT) -- The criminal indictment of The Boeing Co.'s former chief technical pilot for allegedly duping federal safety regulators during their review of the 737 Max is the first of what's likely to be many, as the U.S. Department of Justice vows to vigorously prosecute individuals undermining public safety.
A Texas federal grand jury handed down a six-count indictment on Thursday against Mark Forkner, whose texts and emails to colleagues fueled public outcry and claims that Boeing hoodwinked the Federal Aviation Administration about the overall safety of the 737 Max, which had been involved in two deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019.
