Law360, New York (March 24, 2017, 10:38 AM EDT) -- Phillip Garrido — infamous for kidnapping 11-year-old Jaycee Dugard in 1991 and holding her hostage for more than 18 years — was also a suspect in the 1988 disappearance of Michaela Garecht. As the Hayward, Calif., police investigated the possible link to nine-year-old Garecht's disappearance, a series of historical aerial photos became a critical tool narrowing down where to search in Garrido's sprawling compound and a neighboring property. These images — taken from 1953 to 2008 — showed dramatic transformations to the property, identifying new gardens and areas of concrete that were poured after the girl went missing (see Figure 1). Even though they didn't find evidence of Garecht on the property, the aerial imaging gave the police specific areas to focus their search....
