States Tell DC Circ. EPA Unlawfully Rescinded Methane Regs
Law360 (September 14, 2020, 4:03 PM EDT) -- New York and California, joined by more than 20 other state and local governments, launched a challenge at the D.C. Circuit on Monday to the Trump administration's gutting of Obama-era regulations that clamped down on methane emissions from new and modified oil and gas infrastructure.
In a statement announcing the petition for review, New York said the coalition intends to argue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's policy change violates the Clean Air Act because it arbitrarily rescinds pollution requirements for oil and gas production and processing equipment and completely abandons the regulation of methane "without any justification."
