States Slam Trump's Census Exclusion As Unconstitutional

Law360 (July 24, 2020, 10:26 PM EDT) -- A host of states and cities slammed President Donald Trump's latest attempt to exclude unauthorized immigrants from the final census count, saying the unconstitutional move will deprive citizens nationwide of adequate federal funding and political representation.

New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 36 states, counties and cities in suing Trump and his administration in a New York federal court Friday, arguing that Trump's July 21 memo ordering the U.S. Department of Commerce to gather data about whether census respondents are legally living in the country must be struck down.
